What is it that periodically kills off about a third of the wild lion population in parts of Africa? Dr. Karen A. Terio, a researcher with the University of Illinois Zoological Pathology Program, discussess her recent study, which found that wild lions periodically suffer heavy losses when they encounter a "perfect storm" of environmental and biological conditions.
